Granny

Constance Eloine Sozzi McCaffrey Haggerty, know to most of us simply as Granny, was born in New York, New York on December 5, 1934 to Peter and Eloine Sozzi. Granny is the second of six children; Barbara, Constance, Joanna, Michele, Peter and Anita. Granny grew up spending her summers at the beach, surfing the waves and loving life.

The summer after she graduated high school her family packed up and made the move to California! They settled in Santa Barbara and Granny started attending UCSB. On one of what I'm sure were many, of Granny's "study breaks", she met Hugh James "Jim" McCaffrey at Miramar Beach. They fell in love and were married in 1955. They welcomed Patrick (1955), Jeffrey (1956) and Shawna (1958) together. Jim was an active sportsman and owned McCaffrey Brothers Sporting Goods in Santa Barbara. In the summer of 1960, Jim was called upon by the Government help with some testing in the Santa Barbara Channel. Sadly, at 7 months pregnant with their fourth child, Hugh James (1960), Granny lost her husband to the sea, a place they loved.

She soon met John Haggerty, who after their first date, knew he had "met the woman he was going to marry". He proposed on Halloween and they were married December 26th, 1961. Together they welcomed Erin (1964), John (1966), Ian (1970) and Brigid (1973). They have lived in Santa Barbara ever since, and enjoy their time at the beach, the farm and the 5th wheel with their grandkids, all 22 of them, and soon to be 2 great-grandkids! Although most of us, know all too well, Grandpa and Granny's bickering and secret joy of annoying one another, most importantly we have learned from them a strength and love that has survived the ages.
